Lily clutched the colorful birthday cheque from her Lola. Excited, she and her mom opened the bank’s mobile banking app. "Just picture the front and back for mobile check deposit," Mom instructed.
Lily carefully photographed both sides and tapped "Deposit." The app whirred, then a red message appeared via SMS from the bank: "Mobile deposit being verified."
A moment later, Mom’s phone pinged. It was an email from the bank: "Your recent mobile cheque deposit attempt was unsuccessful due to missing Front Deposit Information (FDI).Please refer to https://www.rcbc.com/check-deposit-advisory for details on the required FDI for RCBC mobile check deposit after April 1, 2025."
Just then, Lily’s tablet buzzed with an SMS: "RCBC: Your mobile deposit failed. Ensure correct FDI is included on the front of the cheque as per https://www.rcbc.com/check-deposit-advisory to avoid deposit error."
Mom read the email and the text. "See, Lily? The bank is telling us that because it’s after April 1, 2025, we need to write specific things on the front of the cheque for RCBC mobile check deposit to work."
Lily frowned. "Why?"
"It’s a new FDI requirement," Mom explained, pointing to the website on her phone. "For depositing check using mobile app, especially with RCBC, they need extra information on the front to make sure the money goes to your account correctly."
Following the instructions, Mom carefully wrote "RCBC BANK" and Lily’s account number on the front of the cheque, being careful not to cover any important details.
On the back, they wrote "RCBC BANK," "Online/Mobile Check Deposit," Lily’s name, her account number again, and today’s date, April 11, 2025. Lily signed her name.
Lily took new, clear pictures of the front, making sure the FDI was visible, and the back. She tapped "Deposit."
This time, the SMS and Email said "Mobile cheque deposit successful!"
Lily smiled. The FDI error was resolved because they followed the bank’s instructions, which they learned about through the failed mobile deposit notification in the app, the email, and the SMS. She now understood that banks sometimes have new rules for mobile check deposits, and it’s important to include the deposit information on the front of the cheque for successful mobile banking app use.
