What happens when you were born a Catholic and then you became born again, and then you became a Mormon, and then you went back to the Catholic church. This is the story of Mary Lou, our guest today. Hi, Mary Lou. Hi, sir.

BELOW IS A SUMMARY. Just press play above to enjoy the whole episode.

Malou’s Journey Back to the Catholic Church

Mary Lou was born Catholic. Her Lola (grandmother) was also a strong Catholic. She remembers doing her First Communion and Confession.

When she was in Grade 3, turning Grade 4, a friend invited her to a Baptist church. That’s when she slowly stopped practicing her Catholic faith.

At 19, after high school, she found out her mother was a Mormon. This surprised her because she wasn’t living with her mom. Around the same time, she met Mormon missionaries. Her brother also became a Mormon missionary. Because of their influence, she became a Mormon too.

She was active at first but later became inactive. After some time, she joined a class by Sir Jomar. He would often talk about Catholic teachings. That made her curious again.

Mary Lou started asking questions. Why didn’t Mormons honor the Blessed Virgin Mary? Why didn’t they make the sign of the cross?

She did her own research. She read about Jesus’ life and the role of Mary. She realized something was missing. She missed the Holy Family — Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.

In the Mormon church, members are called “saints.” To be one, you are expected to live a holy and disciplined life. But Mary Lou felt a deep desire to return to the Catholic Church.

She didn’t ask permission from anyone. She just decided.

Her first step? She walked into a church. Then she started attending Mass — first on Saturdays, then Sundays, then even online. She completed Simbang Gabi during Christmas.

She later spoke with a parish priest. Because it was the Jubilee Year, the priest said she was welcome to return. She made her public profession of faith during Mass. The Church welcomed her back.

Mary Lou told her children, “Mama is going back to the Mama Church.” She reminded them that we are all children of God, and we should recognize the Holy Family, not just Jesus.

She said she never took pictures that day because it was a sacred moment.

Now, she is back as a Catholic. She believes again in Mary, Saint Joseph, and the saints. She thanks the Holy Family for calling her back.

Her Message to Others:

“Search for the truth. Learn from the lives of the saints, especially Mother Mary. Many don’t hate her — they just ignore her. But Mary is important. She is pure and full of grace.”
