First of all, to qualify for a Social Media Management (SMM) Job - you must already be managing your own social media sites like:
a. your own linkedin
b. your own facebook page (not just personal profile)
c. your own twitter account
d. your own instagram account

If you ARE qualified and are hired-- then maybe the following will happen:
1. They will show you their company standard : fonts, colors, style that you need to copy or imitate.
2. They can also give you access to their canva account - as a "team member" so you automatically get access to their fonts, colors, style and logos. This is called their BRANDKIT. Using their BRANDKIT in Canva is essential so any video or image you create - will look like it came from the company.
3. Depending on the company, you'll be asked to read their brand guidelines, vision, philosophy etc. This is how the brand behaves online and their social goals and voice.
What's a voice?
Does the client/brand sound like an authority or a friend?
Is the brand funny? Like Burgerking's social voice?
Is the brand inspirational?Like Nike's?
Is the brand snarky? Like Tita Witty?
That's a brand voice.
You'll have to write like that too.
4. If you're working for a "matagal na sa social" na client, you will be spending a lot of time watching orientation videos and reading HOW TO manuals.
This is applicable if you get hired to do Social Media for my company. I have TONS of tutorials everybody in the team MUST go thru. Videos and readmes.
5. Some clients have step by step workflows already built for social. These may be in Trello, Asana, Clickup or even Google Docs. You just follow the step by step made by them.
My company has Google Docs and Trello.
6. When you're done with orientation, they will ask you to create the images, videos and captions. Many of them may be from other people's posts (User Generated Content).
7. Your work will then by checked by someone (client or manager).
8. If there are any changes, they will let you know. How? You can talk about your work --inside Canva or Google Docs or Slack.
I had a client who wanted all revision talk to happen inside a Powerpoint file.
So my workflow was Make images in CANVA PRO --> Save as PNG --> Paste inside Powerpoint -->Send Powerpoint to client for comment.
Client opens powerpoint and leaves comment inside it -->They send it back to me.
Yes, this process is a braciosaurus eating lunch for 3 days. I don't recommend it. Am bagal.
But if client has a dinosaur system, you may have to work inside their jurassic slow process as long as you're paid really well. You can also recomment my workflow below:
The easier and faster SMM workflow would be :
Create in Canva Pro
Get Share Link from Canva (no need to download anything)
Paste Share Link to Project Manager App (Slack, Trello, Asana, Clickup, Notion etc)
Manager looks at and comments on your work either inside the Project Manager App or inside Canva.
You read their comments.
You revise it.
No email and no attachment is sent back and forth - this way.
Manager approves revision.
Manager gives go signal to post or schedule when it will appear in social.
9. How about customer comments and other social tasks? You reply to customers based on client rules. Let's hope your client has a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - so you know what to answer. You will be asked to ADD to this FAQ.
10. How about posting rules? Ah yes, let's say in a day, you'll create 10 videos. Once approved -- you need to schedule them to appear online in different days using a Socia Media Calendar app.
Three places where to find the Calendar app:
a) The Social Media Calendar app is inside Canva Pro.
b) A Creator App made by the social network (Like the Meta Business Manager/Creator Studio).
c) It's a separate app like Later (for instagram).
11. What other things do Social Media Managers do?
You can also plan what to post with the team. Sometimes it's a monthly plan -so you already know your job for the next month - in advance.
You can also monitor competitors and counterparts to learn from them.
When I did the SMM for a Asian Coffee Brand, we monitored all competition's socials.
It was obvious that the big Coffee Brands were spying on us too - because they started copying what we were doing one week after we did it. Nainggit sguro sila sa results namin.
FINALLY - a WARNING:
So generally speaking - these are your tasks as a Social Media Marketing Virtual Professional.
I'm sure there are more tasks based on other platforms.
For example if you're in charge of Youtube --then the tasks are REALLY DIFFERENT - because youtube is technically NOT a SOCIAL MEDIA platform.
It's a video platform. So a YT VP is not an SMM person.
Make sure you are aware if the clients wants you to "Take Care" of their Youtube.
The rules are completely different vs say, Tiktok or Facebook.
You will want to make sure you're paid for the extra work Youtube requires.
